Gardening and the Loc Journey

Posted by The Loc Doctress on Apr 11th 2020

For over 10 years, I've been cultivating locs and embracing my own loc journey. I never made the connection between gardening and locs until now. Since I've discovered my love for gardening, I'm truly able to see the similarities between the two. It reminds me of how connected I am to nature and how meaningful the loc journey really is.

In January 2020, I began a transformation on my avocado tree that was lacking nutrients and experiencing breakage from roots that were dry and overtaken by grass. This reminded me of a few clients that were a work in progress, whose hair that I nurtured to good health. With my avocado tree, I began by removing the top layer of grass from the roots. Then, I applied fresh organic soil. Third, I began watering the roots frequently. Finally, I used my compost (fruit and veggie scraps) to feed the roots. When grass takes over the roots of a plant, it becomes impossible for the plant to thrive. As a result of transforming my avocado tree, it is doing better than before. It's more vibrant, has new leaves and maximum absorption.

The gardening journey is so much like starting client's loc journies. I get to nurture the roots, promote healthy new growth, watch the maturation phases, and enjoy the journey.
